Lotto blocks - February & March

These blocks were mailed to Tammy today, for Sunshine blocks.

The red ones are for February and the green ones are for March.

 

These blocks will eventually be made into donation quilts for children.

It's always fun to play with bright, colorful fabric and to use up some stash!

Sunshine Lotto blocks for February

Here are my blocks for Sunshine, mailed out today. The theme, if you couldn't guess, was Red!




This was a fun scrappy block from Quilter's Cache, called Four on the Road.




The designer, Marcia Hohn, is so generous to offer all these free patterns to us quilters!
This pattern would be a great candidate for reproduction fabric.

I've been going through my stash finding yards & yards to donate. It feels so good to pass along fabric that I'll never use, and to declutter!

Challenge blocks

I made some blocks for a challenge over at the Sunshine Yahoo group. Ann sent 2 small pieces of "ugly" fabric to me and I sewed some quilt blocks using those fabrics, which I'll be returning to Ann. She'll be making Sunshine quilts with all the blocks she gets back, which will eventually go to kids who can use a bright & cheerful quilt.

In the top group below, the light fabric was the "ugly" fabric. In the bottom group, the gray was. Personally, I didn't think the fabrics were that ugly!





















The cute bunny above is a Debbie Mumm pattern. I never made it before & wanted to try it out. I'll definitely be making more of those bunnies...they would be perfect in 1930's reproductions!

August Lotto blocks

I finished the August Lotto blocks for the Sunshine group & will mail them off in a day or so. I really like doing these blocks. It was fun to play with purple & yellow, which I don't usually use. As a bonus, I used up some scraps! Tammy (of Sunshine) will incorporate these blocks into donation quilts for kids.
September's theme is "bright colors".....and another opportunity to use up scraps!

Lotto blocks for May & June

I made these blocks for Sunshine and mailed them off today. These 7 are "flower" blocks for May.

These 5 are pink & green, for June.

I love making these blocks because I can use up my scraps & try different blocks. These blocks will be blended with other blocks to make child & baby quilts.

Blocks for Sunshine

I made these nine-patch blocks for one of the ladies, Gail, on my Yahoo Sunshine group. She'll make donation quilts with them. This was an opportunity for me to use up some of my bright scraps, and they were fun to make as well. These 14 blocks depleted my stash by approximately 1 yard. A mere drop in the bucket! I guess I could make 1,400 blocks, instead of only 14!

These bright blocks were sent to another Sunshine lady, Tammy, to use in donation quilts. That's another yard depleted from my stash. I guess every yard counts! I like the cat block, which is in Block Magic, Too by Nancy Johnson-Srebro. It's a fun block to make, and I think it adds interest to a kid's quilt.




This is one of the bright blocks from above. I
"invented" it to use leftover half-square triangles,
though I'm sure it's been made before. It's too simple not to have been thought of before!
I can see this one in traditional fabric, maybe Civil War or 1900 reproductions, or made from shirts. I envision it in "controlled scrappy", using a light where the yellow is, maybe a dark where the red is, and a medium for the rest. Basically, just to emphasize the diagonal lines that the yellow and the red create. It's a very simple block, yet has interesting possibilities.


I've decided to postpone my fabric acquisition/depletion records until January. (I've been bad...shhhh!) I'll just concentrate on finishing UFOs. I have 5 more that are very close to completion. Yeah!
